Have questions about Goldmine Youth Leadership School? Here are some answers:

Are scholarships available?
Yes. You can apply for a scholarship of up to half the registration cost. We ask that your congregation also assist in funding your Goldmine experience (as they will be a primary beneficiary!). We will provide matching scholarships up to the amount your congregation provides.

How can I convince my congregation to help fund me?
Talk to members of your church's Board, your Minister, and your Director of Religious Education. Show them the video. Tell them how you want to help make youth programming at your congregation better.

My congregation doesn't have any money set aside for something like this, what should I do?
Ask if it would be okay for you to fundraise within the congregation. You might ask if you can make a pulpit announcement describing your plans and see if people are willing to sponsor you. You could ask if you can set up a table at coffee hour. You could set up a laptop with the video and talk to people about what you want to do. You might be surprised at how generous the members of your congregation are!

Where will we be staying?
In both Goldmine East and Goldmine West you'll be sleeping in rooms with real beds, unlike a con. There will be showers!

  • Goldmine West is taking place at the Notre Dame Retreat Center, Canandaigua, NY, www.ndretreat.org
  • Goldmine East is taking place at the Stony Point Retreat Center in Stony Point, NY www.stonypointcenter.org

Are there other events at the same time?
Yes! Goldmine West is taking place at the same place and time as UULTI—the UU Leadership Team Institute, another leadership school. We will have meals together and some programming.

Goldmine East is taking place at the same place and time as a Youth Ministry Renaissance Module for youth advisors and directors of religious education. We will share meals, some worship, and some programming time.

How can I get there?
If you know an adult going to UULTI, you can get a ride to Goldmine West. Or you can take the bus. Contact Evin Carvill-Ziemer to discuss this option.

You can get to Stony Point for Goldmine East by train or bus, or by riding with an adult taking the Renaissance Module.
